Overview:
Reporting to the IT Manager, the Network/System Administrator (NSA) is responsible for the installation, maintenance and operations of the corporate technical infrastructure components. This includes workstations, servers, associated peripherals, switches, routers, remote access devices, enterprise applications and more. As a key member of the Information Technology Group, the NSA will provide leadership in managing IT infrastructure projects to completion including determining and understanding requirements, documentation and planning, providing technical solutions and strategy for implementation and deployment. This will be accomplished through adhering to IT Group standards and procedures and ensuring that service levels are met with a strong focus on customer service.

Technical and Knowledge Requirements:
Knowledgeable in the installation and configuration of routers, switches, firewalls, and other network devices.
Understands network concepts and protocols such as LDAP, SMTP, POP3, DNS, DHCP, SNMP, VOIP.
Familiar with network and system troubleshooting techniques, tools and resources.
Has an advanced knowledge of Microsoft Operating Systems and a working knowledge of Domain Administration Tools and Applications such as Microsoft Exchange.
Familiar with scripts, print servers LAN Shares and other network peripherals.
Education includes a university degree in computer science, a college diploma or equivalent knowledge and experience.
Has above average verbal and written communication skills
Is able to participate in an on call rotation as part of the 24x7 IT response team.

Desirable Qualifications:
5+ years of recent experience in a medium-sized IT environment.
Certifications in CCNA, MCSE, MCITP, RHCE and A+ are desirable.
Specific experience with Cisco Network Appliances including ASA, Switches, Wireless Access Points, Call Manager, Call Center Server, VMware (workstation and ESX / VCenter), IBM Blade Center, SAN is highly desirable,
Working experience with Whats Up Gold, NetFlow and ScriptLogic Help Desk Authority beneficial.
Knowledge of Red Hat Linux is considered an asset.
Gigabit and Fast-Ethernet switches and routers, BGP and OSPF routing is a plus.
Key Functions and Responsibilities:
As part of the IT team, the NSA will provide technical expertise in the areas of networking, communications, server and workstation management, communications and enterprise applications. The incumbent will also take part in the implementation of special projects. Specific duties include:
Monitor Cisco network appliances.
Monitor network and server performance health.
Install, administer and provide technical support for the Windows 2003/2008 LAN environment including OS installation, patching, and security configuration.
Work with external service providers to maintain and troubleshoot Infrastructure ParetoLogics network.
Assist in identifying, developing and implementing system and service quality measures and controls.
Report on network and server capacity and performance.
Write technical documentation for knowledgebase, maintenance manuals, network configuration and more.
Assist in the creation and on-going management of a detailed asset inventory of all equipment, software and licenses under IT Group control.
Assist in the implementation and operation of detailed systems monitoring and remote administration utilities as prescribed by IT operational policy.
Respond to network and critical system outages as part of a 24x7 IT Technical Response team.
Configures network security and mail features, including user accounts, LAN shares, distribution and security groups, etc.
Assists in the provision of operational, project and helpdesk services to the corporate inter-departmental client base.
Oversees work of junior technicians when assigned as task or project Lead Technician.

Systems Administrator (Victoria)
Position Description
This position requires a mixed skill set consisting of both Linux systems administration and PHP and MySQL software development. You have experience deploying, administering and maintaining Linux servers and have a preference for open source resources. You have demonstrated the ability to not only handle existing servers but to plan for new ones in a timely manner as well as create internal networks.
In addition to your systems administrator skills you are also a skilled coder who is willing to do whatever level work it takes to get the job done. You are eager to work in a results driven environment and have excellent verbal and written communication and documentation skills. This position is permanent full-time and works under the direction of the Partners. Salary for this position is commensurate with experience.
Key Accountabilities
Systems Infrastructure and Development
Linux server administration supporting the following applications:
o Apache
o MySQL and PostgreSQL
Setting up, managing and maintaining internal and external systems infrastructure including:
o Firewalls
o Development servers
o Exchange
o Open LDAP
o XP and Ubuntu user workstations
Developing and building tools for managing specific tasks and/or changes they require
Researching and providing analysis, recommendations, options and design solutions that meet the business requirements and are supported with documentation outlining the rationale behind all decisions
Internal Network Management
Install, configure, and troubleshoot wired and wireless LAN equipment including PBX, VOiP, and local server support
Managing and maintaining web and database servers which includes: software and configuration updates and creating host accounts and managing access for users
Managing and maintaining the network/routing/firewall and support infrastructure
Deployment and administration of workstations, networks and servers
Receiving and responding to technical questions and providing support to non-technical team members in a respectful, accurate and thorough manner

Familiarity with the functionality, operating and failure modes of key networking devices (routers, switches, bridges, firewalls, hardware load balancers)
Working knowledge of common network topologies, protocols and tools with a demonstrated ability to interpret the output of these tools
Awareness of common network security exploits and their remedies
Advanced knowledge of TCP/IP networking and a thorough understanding of troubleshooting at the packet level
Strong programming and scripting ability (PHP)
SQL application and database performance tuning a strong asset
Post-secondary education in computer science

Position Overview
Microserve is offering an excellent opportunity for a SAN/ Storage Systems Administrator for one of our clients in Victoria. It is a full time, 1 year contract.
The SAN/Storage Systems Administrator proponent will be responsible for performing all operational aspects relating to Linux, SAN/Storage and ESX Administration with a primary focus of supporting the Corporations NAS/SAN Enterprise Storage environment.
Responsibilities
Operational Tasks:
Operational activities and tasks that the proponent must be able to perform include, but are not limited to:
Firmware and Software upgrades to data centre components, within a scheduled outage window
Integration of changes into the Corporations security infrastructure, including collaborating with Security staff in relation to the corporate security appliances and management of server and storage accounts for authorized user access.
Hardware monitoring for performance and diagnosis of degradation of service
Troubleshooting hardware, operating system and network problems, degradation or failures.
Participation in corporate Disaster Recovery testing
Participation with data centre staff in reviewing, analyzing, discussing and collaborating on upcoming operational activities
Operational Deliverables:
The proponent will be responsible for producing and/or contributing to the following:
Development of implementation or upgrade task lists, documentation, and test/rollback plans.
Preparing briefing materials for management consideration relating to proposals for technological change or for documentation of systems changes or failures and response.
Technical specifications, procedures, and operational documentation
Revisions to Corporate Disaster Recovery Plans, specific to Technical specifications, procedures, and operational documentation
Bi-weekly status reports to the Senior Systems Administrator, Linux, SAN/Storage & ESX.
Operational Tasks:
Operational activities and tasks that the proponent must be able to perform include, but are not limited to:
Configuration and management of the Corporations NetApp FAS 3160C Dual Cluster filers (35TB) and NetApp R200 backup storage (25TB) supporting NAS/SAN volumes on multiple aggregates connected to physical and virtual servers, with increasing use of boot from SAN.
Replacement of physical disks/cluster components within the corporate data centre.
Management of the cluster using NetApp Data On Tap and Operations Manager
Provisioning, scheduling and monitoring backup capability via attached (HP) and server connected (Quantum) tape drives, using Legato Enterprise Backup and server clients.
Supporting communications with desktops and Enterprise Oracle mid tier databases and/or application server environments.
Requirements
Mandatory Skills:
The successful resource must match or exceed the qualifications and skills listed below:
5 to 7 years of IT related experience; specific to SAN/Storage Systems Administration
2 year practical Data Centre SAN/Storage Systems Administrator experience: supporting, managing and backing up a mixed NAS/SAN enterprise storage environment using fibre channel network architecture (including use of CIFS, NFS and LUN) in a mesh data fabric with clustered failover. This will include;
o Experience with Netapp storage devices and with Data On Tap (version 7.x preferred), Snapshots and Snapmirror technology and usage.
o Experience with Legato Enterprise Backup Toolset, or similar solutions.
o Experience with fibre channel switches set up in a core edge redundant fabric architecture using FCP.
4 years proven success in gathering, analyzing and documenting requirements for complex operational processes and activities
2 years proven experience in implementation planning and testing
Preferred/Asset Skills
The preferred resource who can best contribute to the Corporations business needs will have demonstrated the following additional skills and experience. There is a strong preference for proponents with skills and experience in more than one of the requested disciplines (i.e. Linux, ESX and SAN/Storage).
A formal configuration change management methodology (not SDLC)
A formal project management methodology
