Hostel Assistant (Knoxville, MD at HI Harpers Ferry Hostel)
Hostelling International- Harpers Ferry is part of the Potomac Area Council of Hostelling International USA. We are a non profit mission based organization. Our Mission is "to help all, especially the young to gain a greater understanding of the world and its people through hostelling." We are looking for someone to work at the front desk, assisting travelers, hikers, and campers.
Responsibilities:
Welcome, register, orient and supervise guests
Maintain security and safety of the hostel and personal belongings of guests
Represent Hostelling International-U.S.A., the hostel in a positive manner to guests, callers, local officials and the general public
Provide information about HI-USA, the hostel and the local area to guests in person, over the phone, e-mails and in writing.
Collect and accurately record overnight fees and sales of goods.
Clean hostel buildings
Additional duties include: building maintenance, reservations, gardening, inventory, stocking and supplies purchasing.
Actively support the mission and goals of HI-USA.
Desired Qualifications:
Must have customer service experience and enjoy working with the public.
Excellent oral and written communication skills
Experience handling cash, credit cards and recording sales transactions.
Accurate, neat and thorough record-keeping
House and or hospitality cleaning experience.
Conflict resolution skills and ability to act effectively in a crisis.
Demonstrate ability to work effectively without immediate supervision
Must be flexible regarding work schedule: working evenings, early mornings, overnight on-call duty, holidays, and weekends as required.
First aid and CPR certification preferred (training can be provided).
Computer skills (word processing, e-mail, hospitality registration and data base management) desirable
Interest in camping, hiking, cycling, or hostelling
Must have reliable transportation.
